Columbus, Ohio
2004
The I-670 Cap functionally and figuratively bridges the urban gap of Interstate 670 in Columbus, Ohio. Composed of three separate bridges – one for thru-traffic and one on either side for retail structures – the I-670 Cap is a mixed-use plaza occupying both sides of High Street. A collaboration between David B. Meleca Architects, Continental Building Systems, the City of Columbus and the Ohio Department of Transportation, this project reconnects the pedestrian storefronts of the Short North with the Arena District and Downtown Columbus. The Doric columns and rhythmic arcade reference Daniel Burnham’s Union Station which stood on the site until 1976.
